SUNDAY 3.17

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

We'll be spending today getting final details in place (and hopefully stealing some quality time together before the chaos). We've got suggestions on great things to do around the island below, but we won't judge if you want to spend all day sunning yourself on Waikiki Beach or ensconced in a cabana at the hotel pool.

TUESDAY 3.19

ALOHA BRUNCH
11:15 AM • Voyager 47 Club • The Outrigger Waikiki
Aloha means more than hello or goodbye — aloha also means kindness, love, and affection. To do something with aloha means to do it with your soul. And so we invite you to end your time with us with a send-off brunch with all the aloha we've got.

THE NITTY GRITTY: This is a hosted event courtesy of the groom's parents Cindy and Tod Palm ♡ The Outrigger Waikiki is a 9 minute walk or 7 minute drive from the 'Alohilani — please don't confuse it with the Outrigger Reef, which is further away.

IOLANI PALACE

A PIECE OF HAWAIIAN HISTORY

Iolani Palace was home to Hawaii’s last ruling monarchs before a coup by American and British plantation owners led to the US’s annexation of the islands in 1898. Today you can learn about the islands’ history as a sovereign nation and the little-known realities and repercussions of the tumultuous years before and after annexation.

MOANA LANI SPA

TREAT YO' SELF

We will most certainly be sneaking away to this luxurious ocean-front spa for a little pre-wedding self-care, and we *strongly* suggest you do the same. The Moana Lani is located in the historic Moana Surfrider hotel, a short walk from the 'Alohilani.

one more thing

Reef-Safe Sunscreen

DON’T BE A SHITTY TOURIST

Hawaii has actually banned the sale of sunscreens containing reef-harming chemicals, but they can’t stop visitors from bringing them in. Please only bring reef-safe sunscreens with you, or buy yours once you’re on the island.

get there in one peace

A few travel tips to make your journey easier.

WINGS

We recommend flying into
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL)
just a 30 minute drive from Waikiki.

Book early for the best fares.

WHEELS

While the Waikiki area is very walkable, we strongly encourage you to rent a car if you plan to explore other parts of the island.

You can also rent a car right at the ‘Alohilani through SIXT rentals — a great option if you only want a rental for a day or two. Speak with concierge when you check in or book in advance below.

A word on the wildfires in Maui…

The Hawaiian government has officially reopened western Maui to visitors and is encouraging tourism to help revive the economy there — as such, we don’t expect any issues (logistical or ethical) in traveling to the islands for our wedding next March.

However, the loss of life, homes, and businesses on Maui is absolutely heartbreaking, and we are asking all of our guests to please consider making a donation to the continuing relief efforts there. Beginning August 12th the ‘Alohilani is donating $10 from every booking to their partner Hawaii Highgate’s Love Maui campaign at no additional cost to guests. We have also personally donated to the Hawai’i Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund. If all of our guests were to donate just $25, that would be almost $1000 for Maui nonprofits providing essential services to families and facilitating the recovery effort.

please note

This information is up-to-date as of November 1st, 2023.

your presence is the present

Seriously, gifting is 100% optional.

We know a Hawaiian vacation is a splurge, and the only thing we want on our wedding day is the pleasure of your company. But if gifting is your love language head over to our universal registry on Zola — you can pitch in for a pre-wedding treat (read: couples massage), a honeymoon experience, or treat us to some grown-up dinner and stemware.

Cheers!

any questions?

We've got answers below.

Why Hawaii?

So glad you asked. Hawaii holds a special place in both our hearts – we took our first trip as a couple there and fell in love with the islands' natural beauty, slower pace of living, and spirit of aloha. So instead of hosting a larger wedding back home, we decided to have a small, intimate wedding with just our closest friends and family in this special place. We hope you can join us!

got it

But why Hawaii on a Monday?

Another great question. Because our wedding is so small, it would have been much more difficult to book the venue and vendors we wanted on a weekend, when we'd be competing with larger weddings who will be paying more for their services. By holding our wedding on a Monday we're able to get those great vendors for all of us to enjoy. Thanks for understanding!

speaking of venues...

Is this thing outside?

Yes! Our ceremony and reception will be held outdoors, and it will be a short walk to the ceremony site once we arrive at the venue. Temperatures on Oahu in March range from highs in the mid 70s/mid 80s to lows in the mid/high 60s. March is technically the tail-end of the rainy season, but showers are not expected — and our coordinator will be standing by with umbrellas for all, just in case. Though we will be near the ocean, the ceremony will not take place directly on the beach.

awesome!

So what's the dress code?

The wedding day dress code is BEACH FORMAL – think chic meets comfy. Here are some recommendations:

IF YOU’RE WEARING A DRESS OR JUMPSUIT
• Think light and bright colors and easy-going prints (florals are especially encouraged). If you want to rock a darker tone, that’s fine too, but avoid black – you’ll likely be uncomfortable in the Hawaiian sun.
• Opt for breathable fabrics like silks, lightweight satins, and linens.
• Stick with floor or tea length dresses and jumpsuits, avoiding cocktail length and shorter.
• Since we’ll be outside, choose a chunky heel, wedge, or formal sandal or flat.

IF YOU’RE WEARING A SUIT
• A two-piece suit, polo with blazer, or long-sleeved dress shirt with slacks are all great options – ties are optional, as are jackets if you’re rocking long sleeves. Shorts are no-nos.
• As with dresses and jumpsuits, opt for lighter tones (bright colors welcome) and subtle patterns and avoid black. Feel free to get funky with your ties, pocket squares, and any other accessories, too.
• Choose breathable fabrics like linen, khaki, or seersucker.
• Dress shoes or a dressy loafer or boat shoe are all great options — sandals and sneakers are strongly discouraged, unless you find them necessary to your comfort.

FOR ALL OTHER WEDDING-WEEKEND EVENTS
You do you ♡

oh, that is chic!

Can I take pictures?

We're asking that guests not use their phones or cameras during the ceremony itself – our photographer will be there to capture the moment and we'll share photos with you when they're available so you can stay fully present during the ceremony. Otherwise, snap away!

that reminds me...

Can I bring a Plus One?

We are hosting a *very* small wedding, so only the people to whom your save-the-date and invite are directly addressed are invited to attend the wedding day festivities – that includes both our ceremony and reception. We made a carefully considered decision to keep our wedding small and intimate to allow us to spend quality time with each and every one of you. Thank you so much for understanding!

one more thing...

Are kids invited?

Absolutely! We have very important kiddos in our lives who will be joining us for the festivities.

okay cool

But what if I have more questions?

Check this site again when you receive your formal invitation – we'll be updating it with more details as we get closer to the day. If you still don't have the answers you need or need answers sooner, feel free to reach out to Rachel or Coleman directly.
